What is General Assistance:
Butler County General Assistance can provide temporary assistance with basic and special needs for eligible Butler County residents. Individuals and families who are at risk due to a temporary crisis or mental or physical incapacity and who meet income guidelines may be assisted. Residents may only apply for assistance once a month and only twice per fiscal year. General Assistance does not fund overdue (late) payments, shutoffs, past due rent, deposits, or evictions.
Income Guidelines

For assistance with your rent:
Complete general assistance application.
Provide proof of income for all household members for the last 30 days (bank statements or pay stubs). Please provide paper copies.
Preliminary landlord form filled out.

General Assistance will not pay for past due rent or deposits and only a portion of the current rent that is due.
For assistance with Utilities
Contact North Iowa Community Action for heating/electric assistance 1st during the months of Oct-April. https://nicao-online.org/

Provide a copy of your current bill.
General Assistance will not pay for past due bills, disconnects or deposits.
